Should you use webinar or live stream for your next event?

With virtual events taking the place of live events, it’s vital for the event professionals across the globe to change their approach and strategies to create a better digital experience for their remote audience. While hosting online events, both the webinar and live stream are considered to be the most preferred platforms among the event organizers. However, they have to choose either a webinar or live stream based on their event type and goals.

Here are some pros and cons of each option:

Webinar

• Webinars are “few-to-many” events where one or several hosts present to and interacts with up to 1000 attendees.
• Interactive and multiple speakers can host the session easily.
• Supports the presenter’s ability to do live polls and quizzes with the audience.
• Audience members are usually able to interact with one another. They can also connect and network with participants.
• Webinar is a popular choice for educational and instructional sessions and is generally easy to set up and use. A webinar is a good option if you want to keep the content private. Only registered or paid attendees can attend.
• Downloading an application is a barrier to attend a webinar.
• You can record a live webinar and convert it to an on-demand webinar.

Live streams

• A Livestream is typically a one-to-many broadcast conducted over the internet. (Similar to TV broadcast, but shown live via an internet connection).
• Little or no interaction. Often takes a “broadcast” format with a single stream sent out to the audience.
• Audience cannot interact with one another.
• A live stream is a good option if you want to maximize exposure. Livestream is best used when you have an event like a corporate announcement, panel, or conference that you would like to broadcast to an audience that can’t attend it live.
• No downloads required. Live streaming is now free for anyone with YouTube or Facebook.
• You can turn your Livestream content to on-demand content.
