1.5 Clinical CE credits

This workshop will explore the power and efficacy of leveraging relationships to reach and provide services to what may otherwise be a hard-to-reach teenager.  A few points on Individual Educational Plans and 504 plans will guide social workers to be strong advocates for their students.  Social workers are key to promoting social emotional learning helping districts to establish trauma informed learning environments.  Current laws, trends, curriculum changes and cultural perspectives must all be taken into consideration.  Participants will exit the training with concrete strategies and insight on how to make the most of the collateral information at their disposal in a school system.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. List concrete strategies that all professionals may employ to leverage existing relationships as a means to gain access to difficult-to-reach teens.
  2. Navigate the intersection of mental health needs, Special Education laws, IEPs, 504 plans, and how it all fits into the overall goal of preparing students for employability post- graduation.
  3. Identify at least 3 means of disseminating information to the larger school community in order to turn teachers into allies in fostering a trauma-informed educational setting.
