August is Civic Health Month and NASW-NJ and NASW-FL have partnered with Vot-ER, an organization that promotes civic engagement through health care professionals, including social workers, to bring you this exciting and unique learning opportunity

Civic Engagement as a Social Work Intervention: Where Macro Meets Micro

  • Did you know research has confirmed civic engagement to be a social determinant of health? Moreover, social workers are urged by the NASW’s Code of Ethics to engage in social and political action to ensure better social conditions that provide equity and justice to the people served. A simple way to do this is to utilize civic engagement and voter registration as an intervention and prevention tool.
  • NASW has partnered with Vot-ER to help prepare social work clinicians to incorporate voter registration efforts in their work with clients. This webinar will explore the evidence supporting civic engagement as a social determinant of health; prepare social workers for the critical role they play in improving the health outcomes of patients and clients through civic engagement; and provide tools that can be easily integrated into all practice settings to empower your clients to vote.

Find more resources, including downloadable Vot-ER badges that can be used to help your clients register to vote, on the NASW-NJ website: https://naswnj.socialworkers.org/Advocacy/Civic-Health-Month

Presenter: Chelsea White-Hoglen, MSW, Director of Organizing Training, Vot-ER
