New to a Unit event? NASW-NJ has 12 volunteer-led, county-based Units that hold regional events around the state of New Jersey for members in that area. (However due to the public health emergency, Unit events will be held virtually until further notice!) These events are planned and coordinated by an appointed volunteer Chair and Co-Chair, as well as a Regional Representative from NASW-NJ’s Board of Directors. Social Workers in Police Departments? Exploring Challenges and Solutions to this Emerging Trend

Educational Objectives:

 The attendees of the workshop will conclude the session having achieved the following learning 

objectives:

• Attendees will have gained a comprehensive understanding of the gaps in policing and will be able to identify at least one strategy within the field of police social work that promotes social justice and trauma-informed approaches to community-police interactions. 

• Attendees will be able to identify the value conflicts between social work and the police professions that is at the heart of the challenges that impact collaborations between the  two and learn at least one strategy to resolve these tensions.
