This webinar provides a discussion of the legal issues impacting social work practice through the lens of risk management.  Situations that resulted in legal problems such as lawsuits, board complaints, HIPPA complaints, and subpoena management will be discussed, as well as ways to mitigate risks.  Actual lawsuits and board complaints (de-identified) will be shared to highlight the complex situations and identify precursors that led to the end result.  Through a Q & A format, presenters will field questions from participants.  A discussion of how insurance products protect insureds will be included.

 Learning Objectives:

 At the end of the webinar, the participants will:

 1.    Have an understanding of legal issues that impact their social work practice;

2.    Have identified precursors that lead to legal actions;

3.    Identify strategies for reducing not only risk of legal action, but also reducing the consequences of any legal actions;

             4.    Identify how insurance mitigates legal action and what types of insurance products are needed.
