Vicarious trauma (or secondary traumatic stress) is an ongoing process of change over time that results from witnessing or hearing about other people’s suffering and need. When social workers identify with the pain of people who have endured terrible things, they can bring their grief, fear, anger, and despair into their own awareness and experience. Vicarious trauma, like experiencing trauma directly, can deeply impact the way social workers see the world and can put them at risk for burnout and compassion fatigue.
This webinar will be help you:
1. Identify the difference between trauma and vicarious trauma
2. Identify warning signs of vicarious trauma
Identify tools and techniques for caring for yourself and your staff/colleagues before, during and after burnout and/or compassion fatigue.
