Dr. Frederic "Rick" Reamer has dedicated his career to reforming the ethics, practice, and education of the social work field through his work as a researcher, an author, and a professor. His extensive experience in ethics research has helped NASW and the social work profession, as a whole, over the years. Reamer chaired the task force that wrote the current Code of Ethics implemented by NASW. Currently, he is the chair of the NASW Technology Standards Task Force and continues to serve on the Code of Ethics Revisions Task Force.
About the topic: Complex Ethical Challenges in Clinical Social Work: Protecting Clients and Ourselves This webinar will provide in-depth examination of compelling and complex ethical challenges in clinical social work. Dr. Frederic Reamer will present a series of case vignettes and apply state-of-the-art decision-making protocols. Key topics will include exceptions to clients' confidentiality rights; informed consent exceptions; ethical use of technology and online tools; management of conflicts of interest; ethical challenges when working with clients’ collaterals; balancing client self-determination rights and professional paternalism; managing complex termination-of-services decisions; and difficult documentation decisions, among others.
