The Wisdom Series Part II: Jungian Concepts of Synchronicity: The Soul Through Time & Space

Most religions and cultures say you have a soul. However, they do not usually tell you what it is for. This workshop will explain from a Transpersonal Psychology perspective that a soul is an entity which is regarded as being the immortal or spiritual part of a person. This perspective will be helpful to all social workers regardless of race, color or creed. The soul is credited with the functions of thinking and willing; hence it determines behavior. It is said to also be a pattern for the individual's life.

Learning Objectives | This workshop is designed to help participants to:

  1. Interpret some definitions of the soul.
  2. Analyze some differences between conscious and unconscious mental processes of the mind.
  3. Assess the Jungian concept that there is an intelligence to the unconscious which directs life towards movement which suddenly can appear from an unexpected source- the basic Jungian concept of synchronicity.
  4. Analyze learning objective #3 rather than the usual Freudian definition in psychology that the unconscious is just a receptacle for repressed material.
  5. Recognize that the basic continuous process of our life takes place more below our consciousness where the soul is held.

Presenter: Rev. Karen E. Herrick, PhD, LCSW is a social worker and author of this series.
