ABOUT THE EVENT
Having great software is the first step in learning to build good courses. But you also need to know what to do with that software. That’s why we’re bringing the best of the world’s #1 e-learning community to the San Francisco area for two days of practical tips, inspirational examples, free downloads, and expert advice.
This will be a fun, friendly extension of our E-Learning Heroes community. And we’re inviting you to bring your laptop to get some hands-on experience working along with Tom Kuhlmann, David Anderson, and Articulate Community Managers, as well as other great Articulate users.

AGENDA
This is a two-day event. You can attend for only one day or both days together. We like to break course design into three core buckets: content, look & feel, and interactivity. The first day’s topics are designed around those three areas. They are a combination of some presentation with hands-on activities.
DAY 1
We are working on a more detailed final agenda which will post soon. Here are some of the sessions (topics subject to change).
- How to Create Videos in PowerPoint & Track Them in Your LMS
- Break Out of the Big Course Mindset
- Project Management Tips & Tricks
- Help Your Subject Matter Expert Help You
- How to Build Effective Animations & Transitions
- Visual Design Tips & Tricks
- Different Ways to Build Navigation in Your Courses
- Apply These Gamification Elements to Your E-Learning
- And more...
DAY 2
This part of the workshop is a series of hands-on activities where we build a number of decision-making interactions. We’ll present an idea, prototype the construction, and then build the interaction and save it as a template. We’ll also provide some free templates and interactions for you to take back to work. Here are the main areas of focus:
- Create a series of interactions
- Identify some production techniques
- Create re-usable templates
- Walk away with free interactive templates
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a discount code?
Golden Gate ATD members qualify for a 15% discount. Contact the chapter to learn more or to become a member and get the discount.
My credit card doesn't work.
Unfortunately, some credit cards (usually corporate or government) timeout before they're authorized. There are two options to try, PayPal or Stripe. If you have problems paying for the event, contact me and I can process the card manually.
What should I wear?
We try to keep things laid back and relaxed and encourage casual attire. No need to dress business casual. Jeans are fine.
Should I bring my laptop?
Bring your laptop with the Articulate software installed. Most sessions will assume that you’re using at least Storyline 2. Files and templates will be in Storyline 2 (since they also work with Storyline 360 and Storyline 3).
You can always download a trial version of the software to follow along with the Articulate-specific activities. And if you just want to sit and observe without doing activities that is also OK, but you’ll have more fun participating.
Is this a training workshop for beginners?
The sessions are flexible for both beginners and more advanced users. But it is assumed you have some experience using the software as it is not a getting-started training program. You should have familiarity with the basic authoring in Storyline. We recommend going through some of the getting-started activities & tutorials in the community. Here are your options if you do need a beginner-level training program.
Can I get help with my own project?
We are always around to look at your work and answer questions throughout the day.
Is Internet provided?
We try to provide Internet service when available, however, for the workshop it is not required. Often the wifi connections are spotty so we assume no Internet and if it's working, that's a bonus.
Is lunch provided?
No. You'll have an hour lunch break and can bring lunch or go to one of the places nearby. Also, Intuitive Surgical has a cafeteria with a variety of options: hand-tolled salads, daily entrée choice with sides, panini sandwiches, sides, and drinks. $5 per person for entrée, side, and drink; cash or credit accepted.
