The Lewis County Writers Guild (aka LCWG) is a writers’ group in Lewis County, Washington that seeks to educate, support, and encourage writers in the area. We meet every Monday at Shakespeare & Company, 120 NW Pacific Ave, Chehalis, WA 98532. All writers from the local and surrounding areas are welcome to join us. The Guild was formed in November 2008, after a record number of local writers (40) attempted Nanowrimo. Fifteen of them went on to win by writing 50,000 words on their novels that month.
This event is currently unable to accept new registrations
The best novels have plots that are character-driven. In other words. The author creates characters the reader cares about with something meaningful at stake. In this workshop, we’ll dissect how to put characters in the driver's seat. Topics include: - Creating characters driven by desires and fears - Building tension and conflict into a character web - Bringing complex characters to the page: characterization through detail (showing not telling) - Character development over the novel’s three acts: Figuring out “what would they do next?” - Using viewpoint to show/hide motivation Participants should bring up to 500 words from their work-in-progress in which at least two characters interact, and be prepared to work on it during the workshop.
