Day 3- Wednesday 12th April 2023
Day 4- Wednesday 10th May 2023
Day 5- Wednesday 24th May 2023
Day One: History-taking and Consultation Skills
On day one we will look at the principles of taking a good history using different models in relation to determining differential diagnoses. We will consider the skills required to elicit the 'patient's story' effectively, and think about how our own personalities can impact on the efficacy of our communication.
Day Two: Respiratory and Cardiovascular Assessment
In the morning we will look at the theory behind the assessment of these two separate but intrinsically linked systems. This will include a revision of anatomy and physiology, an overview of the more common conditions and the processes of undertaking a full physical assessment. You will need to bring a stethoscope because in the afternoon you will be in pairs for a practical session using relevant scenarios.
Day Three: ENT and Musculoskeletal
In the morning we will cover ENT and the afternoon will be musculoskeletal assessment. Again, this will cover A&P, tailored system-based history-taking, physical assessment and common differentials.
Day Four: Abdominal Assessment
In the morning we will look at the theory behind the assessment of the abdomen. This will include a revision of anatomy and physiology, an overview of the more common conditions and the processes of undertaking a full physical assessment. You will need to bring a yoga mat if you have one please because in the afternoon you will be in pairs for a practical session using relevant scenarios.
Day Five: Skin and Practical Review of Scenarios
In the morning we will cover skin assessment. Again, this will cover A&P, tailored system-based history-taking, physical assessment and common differentials. In the afternoon we will have a practical session working through scenarios that bring all the learning together.
