Join the Napa County Young Farmers and Ranchers and Become a Soil Scientist for the Day!
The event will be organized and led by Dr. Nick Madden, a local soil scientist who has extensive experience in educating and inspiring young minds about the importance of soil and its impact on agriculture. Dr. Maddens expertise in the field will ensure a high-quality learning experience for the participants.
The main activity planned for the event is a hands-on experience of exploring a soil pit and observing the physical, chemical, and structural properties of the soil. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the different layers of soil, understand the composition of soil components, and discover how soil influences plant growth and agricultural productivity.
All ages and families are welcome with the understanding that the target audience is middle school age students. This is an outdoor event where participants will be actively exploring in the soil pit, long pants and closed toed shoes are required to enter.
The Napa County Young Farmers and Ranchers are hard-working agricultural professionals between the ages of 18 - 35 and are an integral part of the Napa Farm Bureau. As a volunteer run non-profit, we aim to empower others to actively participate in agriculture advocacy, promotion, and education while developing leadership skills. Throughout the year we partner with school groups for Ag in the Classroom and volunteer for a non-profit farm that donates to the local food bank.
