Followed by a presentation on the reconstruction of route 30:
On April 7, 2018, a significant landslide resulted in the closure of Pennsylvania State Route 30 in Allegheny County. Shortly before daybreak, the entire slope failed, sending thousands of cubic yards of landslide material and debris into the neighborhood below. The slide demolished one apartment building, severely damaged another, and impacted a single-family home. Thankfully, the quick action by the PennDOT employees and the East Pittsburgh Police Chief to evacuate all residents ensured that no injuries occurred due to this catastrophic failure. Gannett Fleming, PennDOT, and Golden Triangle Construction, along with a slew of other dedicated support personnel, suppliers and subcontractors, spent the three months working side by side, night and day, to restore this major artery of travel, carrying 25,000 vehicles per day to and from the City of Pittsburgh, as well as attend to the needs of the 30 displaced residents. This project could not have achieved its extremely aggressive goals without the extraordinary collaborative partnership established amongst all of the participants. This presentation will provide attendees with insight as to how the S.R. 30 landslide remediation was accomplished within such a brief duration as described from the perspectives of the Owner, Engineer and Contractor.
