Technical Presentation

Presntation Topic: Current and Future Chiller Regrigerants

Presenter: Gus Rolotti

Concerns over the impact of direct and indirect refrigerant releases to the atmosphere have resulted in a number of new regulations worldwide impacting their development and use in HVAC.  The Montreal Protocol, which originally was created to reduce ozone depletion, has now been expanded to reduce the impact of HFCs on global warming and climate change.  Individual countries have begun drafting regulations to prepare for this.  In particular, the USA’s EPA has made changes in its SNAP program that significantly change what refrigerants can be used in what applications.  This seminar will address review the regulations affecting the industry, will dispel some rumors and clarify some of the information needed to make decisions on chiller purchases and will provide a view of what can be expected in the future regarding refrigerants
