How will the ASQ Transformation Affect You and Your Section?
Google defines Transformation as: "a thorough or dramatic change in form or appearance." The American Society for Quality, ASQ, is going through a transformation this year. This change will be a dramatic change in form and appearance from our current organization. If you haven't noticed yet, you soon will. Why should you care? Your professional development, the reputation of your organization, the impact and respect for your credentials and certifications, depend on the impact and reputation of your ASQ organization. ASQ is your brand and you can learn how to leverage it to create more opportunities for growth in your career. If the ASQ Brand is strong and vibrant, that reflects positively on you as a member and/or Member Leader. Please join Ronald J. Kelley, Deputy Regional Director of Region 5, for an interactive tour of the new ASQ and what it will mean to you and how the transformation will help to propel your career to new heights.
Background:
Membership in almost all professional associations is decreasing. This is true for such storied organizations as the American Medical Association (AMA), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and of course, ASQ. In 2015 the ASQ Board of Directors (BOD) and the executive team under the leadership of our new CEO, William Troy, took the first step in correcting the problem by engaging and listening to the customer. They hired outside, objective consultants, to look at the issue with fresh eyes. They reviewed our current Voice of the Customer data, interviewed and surveyed our staff, members, and member leaders. Then, they came up with a game plan and tested their preliminary hypothesis on small groups while seeking input from the Section Affair Council (SAC), Technical Communities Council (TCC), and the BOD. Open meetings and discussions for members were announced in Friday Fast Facts and carried out for members throughout 2017. Some of the directions for Transformation have already been chosen, but many of the details which impact Member Leaders (ML) and members have been left for us to shape, implement, and change. This is now our transformation.

This presentation will walk you through the history and motivation behind the ASQ Transformation and how it will affect your career. We'll discuss what has been decided and what remains to be done. A timeline with benchmarks will be presented. Most importantly, you will learn about your opportunity to participate in a dramatic change that will reshape ASQ to make it a powerful force for quality and a more powerful advocate for you, the professional. History shows that the most significant accomplishments by individuals in business, art, science and culture take place during periods of dramatic change for those bold enough to embrace change and drive it forward. This is now your opportunity.
Speaker Background:
Ronald J. Kelley is Deputy Regional Director of Region 5, for ASQ. He served as Chair of ASQ 509, Washington, DC and Maryland Metro Section and currently serves as Voice of the Customer for that section. He is one of five members on the Technology Committee of the ASQ Section Affairs Council. It is one of six committees driving change during the ASQ Transformation. His current work as President at Green Gap Solutions, involves helping clients transform their own organizations using Lean, Agile, and Six Sigma, tools and principals. He has over 25 years of experience with transformation initiatives at Fortune 50 Corporations, startup companies, and as founder of three technology startups. He is currently a mentor for start-up companies through the National Science Foundation ICORPS program. Ron is a Motorola Master Inventor with over 30 issued US Patents and many additional international patents. Dr. Kelley has a PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin, is a Motorola and ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and a United States Air Force veteran.
