Friday, May 7, 2021 at 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM CEST

This event is not actually sold out! We are just changing our registration method. See below:

To register for this event, please send either 200 EUR or 200 USD in a one-time donation (please check this is not monthly so you do not accidentally set a $2400/year donation!) to donation: https://support.meduza.io/en

After this, please send a receipt of your donation to us at either workshops@bellingcat.com or to the trainer directly at arictoler@bellingcat.com. Once we receive your receipt, we will send you information for Friday's webinar. For any questions, please send a message to one of the two aforementioned emails.

All profits from this workshop (up to approximately 5500 EUR, if we fill every seat) will be donated to Meduza, one of Russia's most important investigative news outlets that is currently under attack from the Russian government. From Meduza's page:

"The Russian authorities are trying to kill Meduza. The Justice Ministry has labeled us a “foreign agent,” chasing away our advertisers. This means we will run out of money. We are already running out of money. But we have you — our readers. Help us save Meduza!"

You can directly support Meduza here: https://support.meduza.io/en

This workshop focusses on conducting research on the Russian-language internet (RuNet), taking place on May 7, from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM CEST (Amsterdam) / 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM EDT (New York), and covers the following topics:

Conducting research on the RuNet:

  • Researching topics in Russia, Ukraine, and other post-Soviet states via the Russian-language internet (RuNet)
  • Using Russian-language social networks and other platforms commonly used in post-Soviet states
  • Navigating data leaks from post-Soviet states
  • Facial recognition capabilities and pitfalls on the RuNet

Please note: a basic reading knowledge of Russian language is strongly recommended!
