This workshop is a beginning & advanced course in social media & individual-focused research and a beginning verification course, taking place December 7-9, from 10:00 AM to 02:00 PM CET (Amsterdam) / 05:00 AM to 09:00 AM EDT (NewYork), covering the following topics:

  • Introduction to open source investigation

  • Creative search fundamentals

  • How to conduct (nearly) traceless and anonymous/pseudonymous research

Beginning & advanced social media topics, including:

  • Fundamental techniques and creative search strategies on individuals & groups

  • Platform-specific tutorials, including 4chan/8kun, Telegram, and other services

  • Tracking transportation services (e.g. naval vessels, aircraft) for investigations

Beginning verification course

 

  • Introduction to open source research

  • Verification of user-generated materials

  • Web search techniques for digital investigations

  • Reverse image search techniques in digital investigations

  • Geolocation of visual materials

Cancellation policy

- You will be registered as a participant only after we have received full payment of the workshop fee;

- If you cancel your registration up to one week before the start of the workshop, you will be refunded the total workshop fee, minus EUR 25 / USD 30 (administrative costs);

- If you cancel within six to two days before the start of the workshop, you will be reimbursed 50% of the workshop fee. If we are able to replace you with a waiting list candidate, then the total fee (minus Eur 25 / USD 30 administrative costs) will be refunded.
