Olexander Koshetz has an impressive resume from composing to conducting, including leading the Ukrainian Cappella, which toured the world in 1918, a brief period of Ukrainian freedom. In the 1940s local Ukrainian immigrants revered Koshetz and saw him as a way to promote their culture with their children. They brought him to Winnipeg to lead summer singing courses for students. He did this until 1944 when he died in Winnipeg. The local community took him as one of our own and is interred at Glen Eden Cemetery just north of Winnipeg.
Concert Proudly sponsored by the Ukrainian Catholic Foundation and the City of Winnipeg Arts Council, Manitoba Choral Association and the City of Song programme celebrating Winnipeg’s 150th Anniversary through various events year long around the City.
