An Uneven Path: State Investments in Women’s Economic Self-Sufficiency 2019

An Uneven Path: State Investments in Women’s Economic Self-Sufficiency 2019

WFRI and the Economic Progress Institute are using state budget documents, Rhode Island's current Standard of Need report, US Census Bureau, public work and block grant data and data from other publicly available resources to complete a refresh and update our 2010 report of the same name. Of particular interest are data on child care assistance, cash assistance, government-funded health insurance, and child support enforcement. Join us for a discussion on the findings of this updated research.

Nellie Gorbea, the first Hispanic woman elected to statewide office in New England, will deliver the introductory remarks. Panelists include
  • Rachel Flum, Executive Director of the Economic Progress Institute
  • Hilary Levy Friedman, President of RI NOW
  • Lisa Hildebrand, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Association for the Education of Young Children
  • Kelly Nevins, Executive Director Women's Fund of Rhode Island, moderator

Please also help us in celebrating the premiere of our banners commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. These banners will be on display at the event and in the statehouse through February of 2020.

This work is made possible in part through funding and support from the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. The Council seeds, supports, and strengthens public history, cultural heritage, civic education and community engagement by and for all Rhode Islanders.
