With Pragya Kumar
The workshop will be based on a traditional folk art from India called Warli Art. This narrative art dates back to the Neolithic period when tribal women created paintings which covered day-to-day activities of the village. They mainly used the interior and exterior of the buildings as the canvas. This simple art form is easy to create and is a great tool for storytelling. In the workshop the participants will learn about this folk art and use it as an inspiration to create their own art work.
About Pragya
“I am a Visual Arts Practitioner with an experience in participatory and interdisciplinary art forms. I currently work as a Freelance arts practitioner for Emergency Exit Arts (a National Portfolio organisation and an arts charity) and also manage creative projects for Eltham Arts (local voluntary arts organisation. I am passionate about community arts and have devised and delivered high quality, immersive and engaging community projects to spark wonder, curiosity and investigation. My last project “Wall” for Eltham Arts was nominated for a national award in the voluntary sector. My current work is a research about sustainable materials used to create Indian Folk art forms. I want to use my learning to develop a community engagement programme to raise awareness of the diminishing folk art.”
