Students that are interested in STEM or tech careers outside of software engineering are invited to take part in this special event at The Garden in Alexandria, VA
Targeted at young women grades 6-8.
At this all-day hands-on STEMinar girls will work independently and in groups to:
- Learn how to design and model a database
- Build their own MySQL Database and store data using a little bit of SQL code
- Develop and customize their own dashboard with data visualizations using Tableau Software
- Present their data story
- Hear about tech careers outside of those in software engineering
Girl Scout participation in this workshop will earn a Girl Scouts STEM Patch!
There are a limited number of seats available for this event, so please register early.

FAQ
Do I need to know how to use a computer before I attend this event?
Girls who have the most fun and are most successful in this workshop have basic computer skills before attending.
These participants are able to navigate and control a computer on their own and understand concepts such as double-clicking, clicking and dragging, how to open and close applications, and internet browsers.
What do I do on the day of?
Arrive at 9 am for check-in. We will start our workshop promptly at 9:10 am. Students will work in groups and it will be challenging to catch students up if they miss part of the workshop.
What if my student has dietary restrictions?
We will provide a vegetarian option, but the best way to guarantee dietary restrictions are met is for students to bring their own lunch.
Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?
The content in this event is targeted at young women grades 6-8.
What do I need to bring?
If you'd like to bring paper for notes, we recommend a notebook. Bringing a computer is not necessary.
