I Never Gave THAT A Thought is a 4-hour intense training class into the needs and wants of the Deaf and hard of hearing community in the United States. We would say that most of what is learned is applicable worldwide as well.
ASL (American Sign Language) is touched upon during the session since it is asked for by most registrants. You'll be shown the basic alphabet and some words and phrases in sign. A few points on ADA compliance will be brought up. Most of what you will leave the class with are ways to embrace those who are Deaf and hard of hearing and how to understand some of the obvious situations in the daily life of this population.
For those in public safety, lives can be saved, both theirs and yours, when you know what to do.
Don't forget to buy a pair of earplugs available at most pharmacies. You don't have to buy an expensive set at all. Just pick up a pair that blocks out about 85% of sounds. We'll be taking a "swim" into the world of silence.
Any notepad will do just fine.
Oh, try to use a computer with a webcam, either external or built in. As soon your reservation is completed, payment included, an envelope will be sent to you via U.S. Mail. Should you be registering late, we'll send you a pdf of documents to bring to class with you.
Remember the start time in your time zone. We'll have a lot of fun in class, too. See you soon!
