Same day voter registration is common sense legislation that has been safely implemented in 20 states and Washington, D.C. NASW-NJ is joined by representatives of the Democracy in a Day Coalition for this Community Conversation on legislation that would expand access to the vote in NJ by allowing for same day voter registration in our state. Bill A4548/S2824 will reduce the traditional voter registration deadline from 21 days to 8 days before an election and allow for same day/election day voter registration up to and including on Election Day, and contains additional provisions that will improve access to the vote for residents of our state. Assatta Mann from the League of Women Voters of New Jersey and Aaron Greene of the NJ Institute for Social Justice explain the full provisions of the legislation and how it will bridge the voter registration gap and protect people of color, students, individuals on parole/probation and other hard to reach populations from being disproportionately disenfranchised on Election Day. They’ll also share how you can get involved in helping this vital legislation become law.
