Food is an important part of culture. Food defines us and shapes the way that we live and feel. Immigrants bring the cuisine of their country of origin to wherever they go and that food tells a story about who they are and where they come from. Food traditions are a staple of every culture around the globe; it is a way to connect people across generations and geography. Learn more about cultural food traditions via our new exhibition Taking Root: Immigrant Stories of the Hudson Valley, on view at The Reher Center Friday-Sunday from 1:00pm-6:00pm.

Expand your knowledge and treat your appetite as you create-your-own Chutney and Gluten-Free Spiced Potato Cake under the expert guidance of Mini Dhingra, the Owner and Founder of Samosa Shack, here in Kingston, NY. Participants will leave with new skills, cultural knowledge, and of course, the food they create throughout the workshop.

The Reher Center For Immigrant Culture and History is a museum and cultural center that preserves and honors the legacy of Reher’s Bakery and amplifies immigrant stories of the Hudson Valley, past and present. The Reher Center’s mission is to foster belonging by engaging all people through culture, community, work, and bread.

Samosa Shack was created by Mini Dhingra in 2014, when friends and family urged her to bring her delicious food to market. Using Hudson Valley farm fresh seasonal ingredients, Samosa Shack treats can be found at various farmers markets, pop-ups, and at catered events, throughout New York and New Jersey. Samosa Shack makes plant based Indian eats in midtown Kingston, at the Cornell Creative Arts Center.
