Fogo Island (Newfoundland) Fine-Art Photography Workshop - with Marc Koegel - May 12 - 21, 2023

UPDATE: This workshop has only 1 seat left available

Some say that Fogo Island is not so much a place as a state of mind. As soon as you set foot on the island, you’ll certainly feel that you’ve arrived somewhere very special. With a long maritime history, the largest offshore island of Newfoundland and Labrador is a gentle world of brightly colored clapboard houses, sea-cliff footpaths, lush forest, and warm hospitality set against a striking coastline.

Join internationally award-winning fine-art photographer Marc Koegel for a unique and unforgettable journey to Fogo Island, Newfoundland.

This will be a small group workshop with a maximum of 5 participants only.

We will explore the island from the coast to the interior creating personally meaningful photography. This is not a 'take me to the iconic locations' type of tour, but a workshop experience that aims to go much deeper. The small group will allow us to be extremely flexible and quick to move around.

You will be encouraged to work on a personal body of work, created with the help of Marc. We won't chase you from place to place, but give you all the time you need. Daily reviews of our work provide encouragement and also allow for do-overs - travel time between locations is short so we can re-visit any place as often as needed (or find new locations)

This workshop is geared for you to create personally meaningful work using whatever techniques suitable and *not* limited to black and white and / or long exposure photography.

Marc will demonstrate and discuss several techniques including intentional camera movement (ICM), defocusing, multiple exposures and more, aimed to help you create expressive photographs.

Fogo Island offers many unspoiled nature and landscape environments but also very interesting and unique architectural subjects.

Our daily schedule will be highly adaptive to the needs of the group, there will be ample time to photograph as well as reviewing our work including learning about post processing.

This workshop is offered as a (almost) fully inclusive experience. Single occupancy rooms, and all transportation including ferry service is included. Meals are not included. On Fogo island everyone's private roomn will include a private kitchen so meals can be prepared, but there are several restaurant option nearby as well.

Please contact Marc Koegel directly with any questions / comments.
