This two week course gives participants a strong foundation in the principles and techniques of regenerative design. Week 1 is focused on Permaculture and taught at Atitlan Organics, a 10-year old productive Permaculture farm. Week 2 explores Natural Building design and techniques. Taken together, these two weeks provide a solid foundation in both subjects, as well as the wider topic of regenerative design.
Studying regenerative design in Central America offers amazing opportunities to learn from indigenous cultures, rich natural patterns, and enormous diversity. Permaculture and Natural Building in Central America is representative of the edge effect or Edge Valuing Principle of Design. As one of the world's centres of biodiversity, Central America attracts people from all over the world interested in learning through nature. Regenerative design practices can be seen in action via the surviving indigenous traditions that are common in Central America.
All lodging and accommodations during the two weeks are provided by the Bambu Guest House, a beautiful natural building boasting bathrooms and balconies in each room, comfy beds, wifi, super hot water, and amazing views of the lake, mountains, and rivers. The Bambu Guest House is proof that natural building can be clean and luxurious. Lodging is shared, but private rooms are also available for an additional charge. Meals are amazing and delicious, prepared at the Bambu's farm-to-table restaurant by its awesome team of chefs. All produce is provided by Atitlan Organics and other local producers.

Atitlan Organics is a small-scale, highly diversified, super low-input, direct-to-consumer, downright ninja farm. Growing food for 5 restaurants and over 20 families, Atitlan Organics is productive landscape that lends itself beautifully as a rich learning environment. The nearby Bambu Guest House is a natural building made of all bambu, stone, wood, and lime plasters. The farm to table restaurant is integral to the whole experience, as the food we are growing and harvesting is also nourishing us as we learn about new alternative options for living and culture.
