NYU, 14A, New York, NY, 10003, United States.

Celebrate independent food journalism in the American South by commemorating the longstanding relationship between South Carolina and New York City.

In honor of the Black women who cooked in Jewish homes in the 1930s-1960s, our party menu of appetizers is drawn from NYC synagogue cookbooks published in the mid-20th century. As Regard Thy Table, published by the Larchmont Temple Sisterhood in 1950 put it, "these unusually diverse recipes rang(e) all the way from anisschitten to pickles dill."

This event is co-sponsored with: The Jewish Food Society, The Museum of Food and Drink, and NYU's Department of Nutrition and Food Studies.

Launched in 2021 with the support of a Substack Local grant, TFS has been named among the nation's best newsletters by the International Association of Culinary Professionals, NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, and the James Beard Foundation.
