This course provides a framework for understanding the complex issue of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children/ Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (CSEC/ DMST). Youth involved in Child Welfare are at a higher risk for being targeted for exploitation than the general population. This course provides essential information to assist with recognizing the risk factors and red flags for youth and children and a framework for responding in a well-prepared and collaborative way. The significant impact CSEC/ DMST can have on children/youth will be discussed as well as interventions and resources available. Tactics of exploiters will also be reviewed to assist with understanding of dynamics of the exploitation. This course explores the prevalence of these cases in Connecticut and nationally. Information provided will include State and Federal laws as well as protocols and supports within the Department.
