Centro Cultural de Belém, Praça do Império, Lisboa, Lisboa, 1449-003, Portugal.

BAO Systems is excited to welcome you to the annual Impact First Summit on October 10-11 in Lisbon, Portugal. This two-day Summit will convene speakers and organizations from the global health and development sector where together we explore the possibilities of achieving impact through technology and data innovations.

We believe digital technology is core to the future of the development sector, capable of improving development outcomes, driving economic growth, and lifting millions out of poverty. The rapidly changing data and technology landscape means that we have more information, evidence and insights than ever before, but efforts must be coordinated to ensure all countries have the tools, knowledge, and resources to use information effectively. By understanding the broad application of technologies across agriculture, health, education, governance, and environmental sectors, we can make meaningful gains.

The venue offers excellent spaces for presentations, networking and in-depth discussions, not to mention the scenic location by the waterfront in Lisbon. Join us as we spend two days discussing cutting-edge technologies and approaches to address the world's most pressing development challenges.

The Summit will feature plenary and breakout sessions, panel discussions, exhibitor tables, and networking opportunities. The Impact First Summit will be a fully in-person event. Please note that it will not be possible to participate virtually.

Hope to see you there!

Cooper/Smith

As a health economist and policy advisor, I’ve supported governments and organizations to apply data in a variety of ways to address real-world challenges and support more informed decisions. Methods have included program evaluation, study design, policy analysis, cost and cost-effectiveness analysis, economic modeling and forecasting, systems development and clinical research coordination. Regardless of technique, the ultimate goal has always been the same: apply the right data and tools to answer the right questions. Prior to Cooper/Smith I served as Health Economist and Special Advisor for Efficiency, Accountability, and Strategic Planning to the Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator (S/GAC), US Department of State. In this role, I was the technical lead for the restructuring of the PEPFAR Country/Regional Operational Plan (COP/ROP) process. I was also the lead for the PEPFAR Expenditure Analysis (EA) Initiative and supporting systems, in 2012 institutionalizing the first cross-agency, results-linked financial accounting system within the U.S. Government development portfolio. In addition to my time at the State Department, I've served as Health Economist for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), research consultant for CARE (USA) and ACCESS Development Services (New Delhi, India), and Clinical Research Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). I have published numerous think pieces and blog posts on health economics, AI, tech, and global development including in the New York Times.

As the Founder of Datharm in Nigeria, Amina has led the company to achieve significant milestones. Under a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-supported grant, Datharm developed data-driven digital platforms for the Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation of the BHCPF Health Financing Initiative. This initiative allows entities like the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), the National Health Insurance Agency (NHIA), the National Emergency Medical Treatment (EMT), and the Ministerial Oversight Committee of the Federal Ministry of Health (MOC) to access real-time information on healthcare delivery, including emergency medical data and ambulance services. It also tracks and manages the utilization of funds for basic healthcare services and facilitates reporting and information sharing among stakeholders. Datharm also partners with the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to prioritize decision-making and accountability around key health and nutrition data. The organization leverages the diverse experiences of its team in software engineering, management, research, and data analysis to enrich its initiatives across Nigeria's 36 states. In maternal and child health, Datharm collaborates with UNICEF under the GAVI Health System Strengthening MOU to reduce zero-dose children. They use digital tools to enhance healthcare service delivery to pregnant women and reach non-compliant patients in rural communities. A Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant supports Datharm in using digital technology to strengthen routine community engagement for immunization through Community Resource Groups (CRGs) and traditional leaders. In education, Datharm under the leadership of Amina, designed and managed the Education Management and Monitoring System for the Ministry of Education, overseeing over 50,000 public school students in northern Nigeria. She also developed a tracking tool for the Nigeria Partnership for Education Project (NIPEP), funded by the World Bank and coordinated by USAID, to effectively track progress in girl child education.
