Join the Texas Partnership for Out of School Time (TXPOST) for an introduction to service learning, a type of project-based learning that drives students’ academic interests and passions toward addressing real community needs. As an instructional strategy, the process of service learning engages young people in every step—investigation, planning and preparation, action, reflection, and demonstration of learning—putting their perspectives and experiences at the forefront and developing their leadership capabilities by empowering their voices. Quality service learning can be aligned to shared academic and programmatic goals, including those of schools and districts, and fosters and facilitates youth-centered engagement.
As the Quality and Program Initiatives Manager at TXPOST, Laura Roye will discuss the service learning process, share how it can help to accomplish quality improvement goals, and answer questions about TXPOST's service learning initiative.
