Safer Spaces is a Gilbert Centre program that provides organizational assessments, professional development workshops, and consultation services to create more inclusive programs and workplaces for 2S-LGBTQ+ communities. The services are created to address the diverse needs of 2S-LGBTQ+ peoples by addressing institutional barriers to inclusion. The workshops offer a shared learning experience that provides front line staff with concrete strategies for their work.
This workshop will introduce participants to the concepts, language and tools relevant to 2S-LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace. Introductory language, including terminology, pronouns, and a deeper exploration of concepts such as intersectionality, equity, equality, diversity and inclusion will be presented. Using relevant and local statistics, the presenters will address common questions around why building Safer Spaces is crucial work for all institutions, community groups, businesses and organizations before ending with a question-and-answer period.
Keegan Hobson and Sara Runions will be facilitating the training.
The Gilbert Centre is a community-based, not-for-profit, charitable organization that has been providing programs and services as the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County for over 25 years. In 2015, the Gilbert Centre, named after its founder Ed Gilbert, not only reflects the change in HIV, but also embraces the expansion of programming to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender individuals and families in the Simcoe Muskoka area.
