This 7.5-hour professional development course provides a comprehensive review of key legal precedents in special education, focusing on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and three landmark U.S. Supreme Court cases: Board of Education v. Rowley (1982), Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District (2017), and Rachael H. v. New Milford Board of Education (2003).
Participants will explore how these cases shape the educational rights of students with disabilities and the standards for providing Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Through detailed case analysis, educators will gain a deeper understanding of the evolving legal landscape of special education, focusing on how these rulings impact Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), procedural safeguards, and the level of educational benefit required.
