This Community Conversation is being presented free for social workers, their clients, and the general public.  It is not CEU eligible.

 In partnership with NASW-NJ

Phil McCabe, CSW, CAS, DRCC of the Rutgers University School of Public Health joins us for this Community Conversation that provides an overview of a new initiative to prevent sexual violence in LGBTQIA+ communities and how social workers can contribute to preventing sexual violence in our communities.

The purpose of this initiative is to identify current community supports that are available to the LGBTQIA+ community, including the availability and visibility of protective spaces for LGBTQIA+ identified people; and increase community and institutional capacity to implement sexual violence (SV) prevention and respond to SV within the LGBTQIA+ community.

A team at Rutgers School of Public Health is conducting a statewide community needs assessment on preventing sexual violence in these communities. Rutgers is working with the NJ Department of Children and Families, Division on Women as part of New Jersey’s Rape Prevention and Education Initiative.

The research is being conducted by Philip McCabe (co-investigator), a health educator, and Mitchel A. Rosen (PI) an associate professor in the Dept. of Urban and Global Public Health at the Rutgers School of Public Health.

This training and needs assessment are supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) grant funds, administered by the NJ Department of Children and Families, Division on Women.
