Workshops will be at the EAST end of the building. Please use the EAST parking lot and enter through the EAST door.

Registration is at 8:15 am. Workshops start at 8:30 am.

Session 1
Tutor Ready: New LINCS Resources for Teaching Adults to Read
(for ESL as well as literacy tutors)
During this workshop, we'll explore these new, bite-sized resources that are drawn from the research-based LINCS' Teaching Adults to Read online courses and workshops. Tutor Ready focuses on topics relevant to adult literacy tutoring in the area of reading. USING YOUR LAPTOP OR TABLET OR MOBILE DEVICE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Presenter: Karen Bowen is the program coordinator and trainer at Boulder Reads. She was involved in the pilot project for Tutor Ready at Boulder Reads.

Assisting ESL/ABE/HSE Learners with Long-term Goals: How to Get Started
Participants will learn how an adult ed provider - administrator, teacher or volunteer - can collect information from students about what they would like to achieve in the future on an educational, career, and/or personal level. Participants will learn a method for guiding students who have clear goals and those who do not.
Presenter: Jonathan Huie has worked in adult education for nine years, with experience as a teacher in Mexico and in administrative roles at the community college level and in the nonprofit field.
Session 2
How to Use Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to Connect with Your Students
Find out how to better use social media to connect with your students and reach them where they hang out. Deepen your relationships and help them learn more with things like Facebook Groups, Instagram Stories, and Twitter. USING YOUR LAPTOP OR TABLET OR MOBILE DEVICE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Presenter: Andrea Vahl is a Social Media Consultant and is the co-author of Facebook Marketing All-in-One for Dummies.

Life Dream and Stepping Stones
This presentation will demonstrate the integration of critical thinking skills and study skills using graphic organizers and manipulatives. Participants will experience first-hand interactive learning activities that are fun and meaningful.
Presenter: With an MA in ESL, a Ph.D. in education, and 36 years of teaching and tutoring experience under belt, Ranee Cervania regularly provides professional development workshops to Adult Ed/ESL/GED instructors and volunteers.
Session 3
Developing a Successful Lesson
Topics covered will include: planning your work / working your plan; teaching strategies; and collaborating with fellow staff members for more successful outcomes for learners.
Presenter: Barbara Ulrich has been an educator for over 30 years. She is presently the director of Open Door, a non-profit academic High School Equivalency and ESL program.

A Few Tips and Tricks to Teach EFL
Participants will learn simple ways to help students with pronunciation, how to explain the meaning of some types of words, how to encourage students to speak English in the classroom, and how to make students write while they learn new vocabulary.
Presenter: Kenia Campbell is an EFL instuctor at Colorado Heights University. She has been teaching English to diverse populations overseas and in the Denver area. She holds degrees in Linguistics, Languages and Educational Technology.
