What is the Spring Streamside clinic?

We developed our Streamside clinics in 2011 as way to hands-on teach beginners and intermediate anglers the fundamentals of fishing our North Shore streams and rivers with a focus on steelhead and salmon.  To summarize, we review fishing equipment that is suitable for the techniques we commonly use for steelheading: rods, reels, lines, knots, flies/yarn, and misc. extras.

We review what steelhead are and the spring spawning run. We also go into detail on how to read water and provide some tips on safe river crossing.  After some general overview, our instructors will guide the group to the water for some hands-on instruction regarding locating fish, fly/yarn selection, and presentation. Note this is not a casting class but some assistance can be provided as needed.  PLEASE visit our website clinic page for all the details before you register!

***Details on location will be sent to registered participants after successful registration***

Event Schedule for September 21st:

Arrival and Prep: 8:30ish. Please use this time to use the bathroom, assemble your gear and dress (waders, boots, vests etc.)

Outdoor Classroom Lecture:  9:00 - 10:00ish

River Hike: 10:15 - 10:45 a.m.

On The Water Session: 11:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Who can attend?

This clinic is open to all who are able to freely maneuver the root-covered dirt and rock trails along the banks of the river.  Please note there is a .7 mile hike involved to get to the river for the on the water portion.  The trails are the easy part, it is the walking on rocks and light wading that requires a good sense of balance.  Note too that we focus on entry level wading - no deep water, and most wading is less than knee high.  Wading is not necessary to partake in the clinic.  We strongly encourage Parent/child pairs to participate in the clinic.  A signed liability waiver and release is required from each participant and children 17 and under must register and attend with an adult to participate.

What does this clinic cost?

There is no cost for this event but we gratefully accept donations.  Our staff donate 100% of their time and talents to teach and guide during this wonderful clinic;  no-one in MNST holds a paid position.  All donations received for our events and clinics are immediately deposited into the fund used for future educational programs, community events, and fisheries projects to further our education and conservation mission.  This clinic continues on because of your generosity.
15 and under - open donation
