From Mound Builders to Minie Balls: A Survey of Nashville History up to the Civil War

Back by popular demand, Dr. Carole Bucy, Davidson County Historian, will present a new series of her popular Nashville 101 Classes for 2019. This series will focus on Nashville’s history from the Mound Builders of the Mississippian Era to the onset of the Civil War.

  • Session 1- Thursday, February 7: “The Cumberland Frontier Before & After the Arrival of Europeans”
  • Session 2- Thursday, February 14: “A Frontier Town Comes of Age”
  • Session 3- Thursday, February 21: “Andrew Jackson’s Nashville”
  • Session 4- Thursday, February 28: “Storm Clouds on the Horizon”

All lectures will be held at:

Nashville Public Library Green Hills Branch
3701 Benham Avenue
11:00 AM – 12:15 PM

Due to the popularity of these classes and space limitations, registration is limited to 75 participants. For this reason, pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Although Dr. Bucy contributes her time to teach these classes, we request that registrants make a $25.00 contribution to the Metro Historical Commission Foundation. Your contribution will be used to fund local historic preservation projects. These funds have assisted with projects at Nashville City Cemetery, Two Rivers Mansion, and Fort Negley; DNA analysis of the African Americans buried at Grassmere; and interpretive signage at Buchanan Station Cemetery.

We cannot guarantee a spot until payment is received.
