FEMA Region I, hosted by Connecticut, will bring the National Emergency Management Advanced Academy (NEMAA) to the region in FY23 providing advanced emergency management professional training to our state partners. The training will be delivered at: Fairfield University, 1073 North Benson Road, in the Dolan School of Business ________________________________________________________________________.
Each state is responsible for managing their participant’s application packages and travel/per diem expenses.
NEMAA is designed for emergency management professionals with a background and experience serving in an Emergency Management (EM) organization or in a significant role directly connected to the Profession of Emergency Management or a recognized EM organization, such as: Public Health, Higher Education, Medical, and Private Sector organizations or companies with a role in Emergencies and Disasters. This includes:
- Employed or directly connected (ex. Volunteer) with Emergency Management (EM) (Examples: Federal, Military, State, Local, Tribal, Territorial and Consortium EM Agencies)
- Directly Connected with the Profession of Emergency Management (EM) or a Recognized EM Organization (Examples: Public Health, Higher Education, School Systems, NGOs, Private Sector Business Continuity/EM)
Students learn skills critical to performing emergency management responsibilities, such as: program management and oversight, effective communication at all levels, integrated collaboration, and strategic thinking, along with completing a NEMAA Paper prior to attending the third course.

Classes must be completed in sequential order. Classes and dates are:
· Class 1: L0451: January 9-13, 2023
· Class 2: L0452: March 13-17, 2023
· Class 3: L0453: June 5-9, 2023
Class 4: L0454: July 10-14, 2023
To apply for NEMAA in FY23 in Connecticut, please complete the attached pdf file and send to your State Training Officer (STO) on or before August 1, 2022. Each STO will then coordinate with the host, Connecticut State Training Officer – Shelly Carter at demhs.trainingandexercise@ct.gov for final class selection on or before September 1, 2022. The final roster is due to the NEMAA Program Manager, Douglas Kuhn, (douglas.kuhn@fema.dhs.gov) by September 15, 2022.
