North Dakota Museum of Art

The North Dakota Museum of Art, nestled in the vast expanse of the Northern Great Plains, stands as North Dakota's official art museum and a testament to our commitment to the arts. Originating as a university exhibition space in the mid-1970s, we evolved into our present form in 1981, with the State Legislature officially designating us as the state's art museum. Our renovated museum opened in 1989 results from collaborative efforts and community support. Committed to collecting contemporary international art, preserving the visual history of the region, and assembling a survey collection of contemporary Native American art, we extend our influence to various artistic realms.
