Don't get stuck in the rut

I have had an obsession with learning about wildlife even long before I was of age to hunt. When I finally hit the legal age to hunt in Idaho, I didn't waste any time and knocked down my first bull elk, and have been hooked ever since. The years of knowledge from my dad and his friends hunting and bugling bulls got passed down to myself and my other siblings, giving us an edge early in our teenage years. With that knowledge and our family's history in adapting to changing environments, time and time again, I continue to harvest big bulls on public land with Over the Counter tags in regions that don't have the "Big Bull" reputation. I am now 34 years of age and have taken 23 bulls total out of the backcountry, and I have called in multiple elk for my family and friends. With this knowledge, I want to share it with those who have a strong desire and passion to have consistent success, and pull more elk off the mountain every year."

Sunny Skies Retrievers

Sunny Skies Retrievers is located in the gem state in lovely Lenore, Idaho. Sunny Skies is a small kennel that is veteran-owned and operated. Sunny Skies' goal is to promote a great partnership with you and your hunting buddy/ family member. To do this we build the confidence of the animal by teaching the skills to be successful and continue reinforcing throughout the learning process. Once your dog has been trained, we like to train the owner as well, so that they know how to handle their team to the best of their ability. For us it’s all about the dogs and bringing out the best in them so they perform the tasks asked of them. Whether that is to be successful in hunt tests or being steady and quiet while the ducks come into your favorite hunting blind. Let's get it done!

Northwest Hunt Fest

Penny was born and raised in North Idaho, growing up in a family that lived off the land, hunting all their meat from the mountains she called home. Just two short years ago, a close friend introduced her to archery and took her elk hunting. Life was never the same after that. Penny discovered a love for chasing elk and whitetail through the mountains, and she embraced the endless pursuit of becoming the best hunter she could be, aiming to help others do the same. An educator at heart, Penny started Northwest Hunt Fest to live out her passion for hunting and to pass along hunter education to the next generation. Her vision for Northwest Hunt Fest is to see it grow into the premier hunting education festival in the US, serving thousands of hunters each year with the finest in hunter education.

Field dressing & Gear Up for Success

Chris discovered hunting on his search to secure the highest quality food on the planet. Little did he know he had stumbled across something that combined all of his passions - nature, backpacking, shooting, food, adventure, spirituality - into one incredible pursuit. Chris experiences hunting as a way of life where one can find meaning, personal growth and a deep connection to the natural world. Chris found hunting later in life. He did not grow up in a hunting culture or with mentors. He learned the hard way through intense study and lessons learned in the field. After a decade he feels grateful to have the skills necessary to consistently provide wild food for his family. The only thing that makes Chris happier than hunting himself is sharing these life changing skills with others and shortening their own learning curve. He is a passionate teacher and speaker. Chris has a true gift for distilling complex subjects into bite sized pieces of actionable information.

Sharing the Outdoors - First Hunt Foundation

Blake grew up in a multi-generational hunting family that kicked off the season dove hunting every year as a family. He completed hunters' education at a young age and was mentored by his father on harvesting and proper cleaning by age 10. He continued to hunt throughout his childhood and into his adult life. In his 20's, he became confident enough in his own abilities to begin unofficially mentoring other hunters, with the emphasis on respecting the harvest through proper preparation, harvesting and processing. In November 2022 Blake accepted the FHF Treasure Valley Chapter President role and in July 2023 he accepted the responsibility of the Idaho State Director. He sees as much importance in the experiences and personal growth gained from hunting as he does a source of healthy food and connection to nature. A third-generation hunter/gatherer of the Northwest, Bruce has been helping people reclaim their hunting heritage since the 1990’s, officially with the Awaken the Hunter course since 2016. He has been teaching introductory hunting and shooting classes with the non-profit Washington Outdoor Women since 2001 and has guided fly fishing and whitewater rafting. He is a certified Master Hunter and shooting instructor, holds a Master’s degree in sustainable business and is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Washington.
