SkyVault’s youthful ensemble tells a Two Gentlemen of Verona-ish tale.
In "On the Road to Verona", a group of musically inclined (very) young players set out to prove that you don’t need middle-aged actors pretending to be teenagers to portray Shakespeare’s comic romances. (“You can always go see that at the Guthrie,” they say.)
An audience-interactive, immersive experience in which the cast (and the audience!) posts to Facebook throughout the performance to comment on the action, add another level of humor, and share lyrics to SkyVault’s original, Shakespeare-inspired songs.
The script and Shakespearean-lyrics for this original production were developed collaboratively by the SkyVault ensemble and premiered at the 2016 Minnesota Fringe Festival, where reviews by regular Twin Cities theatre-goers rated Verona among the best of the 168 shows at the Festival.
A sample of reviewer comments:
"A totally inventive take on Shakespeare!” *
"Energetic, whimsical bard-iness." *
"You may very well be watching future stars of the Minneapolis theatre scene."
"Truly the best show I've seen at the fringe this year. The music ability was insane."
"The acting almost moved me to tears because of the brilliance.”
