Photo Safari with The Image Doctors Jason Odell & Rick Walker
Experience Oregon’s best on this photography safari with Jason Odell and Rick Walker, hosts of the popular photography podcast, “The Image Doctors.” We’ll start out in the iconic Columbia River Gorge just outside of Portland, OR, where you’ll be treated to majestic waterfalls, lush forests, and vibrant wildflowers. Continuing on, we’ll make our way to the town of Newport, which will serve as our coastal base-camp. From there, we’ll explore Oregon’s coastal landscapes, photograph lighthouses, and the fishing harbor of Newport itself. We’ll finally make our way back to Portland with stops at some iconic locations along the way, including Silver Falls State Park and more.

Workshop Style: Photo Safari | The workshop schedule maximizes our photographic opportunities each day, meaning there will often be extended shooting days starting at sunrise and ending after sunset. We will emphasize techniques for getting the best possible captures in-camera followed by high-quality image post-processing using tools like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. We will hold mid-day open Q&A sessions to answer your questions about how to get the best images when our schedule permits.

*You are expected to have a fundamental understanding of exposure and focus settings on your camera.
Activity Level: Moderate
Expect fairly easy trail walking but you must be able to carry your gear over hilly terrain up to half a mile at times. Most shooting locations will be near the parking areas.

Core Itinerary*
- Sunday, April 13: Arrive in Portland, Oregon and check in to our hotel. Welcome dinner with Jason & Rick
- Monday, April 14: Shoot waterfalls and landscapes in the Columbia Gorge in the morning and afternoon, with a mid-day break for lunch and to download your photos.
- Tuesday, April 15: Morning shoot in the Columbia Gorge. Afternoon drive to Newport, OR for the remainder of the safari. Shoot sunset along the coast in Newport. Wednesday, April 16: Coastal and forest shooting in the Newport area. Midday open office hour session with Jason & Rick
- Thursday, April 17: Coastal shooting south of Newport
- Friday, April 18th Check out and return to Portland with landscape shooting TBD depending on conditions along the way. Optional: Overnight in Portland
