The Observatory for Sport in Scotland is staging its first National Sport Summit conference aimed at engaging stakeholders in community sport, recreation and health in discussing and piloting more effective practice to help stakeholders across Scotland increase sport participation for ALL; for every person in Scotland, irrespective of age, ability and background.

The event is the result of a wide range of research among stakeholders across Scotland, and has three core objectives:

1.    To bring together in one room stakeholders from government to community level, policy-makers and practitioners, public and private, involving representatives from health, education, business, economy, criminal justice and employment to discuss and debate key issues affecting community sport, recreation, health and wellbeing;

2.    To provide a platform to publish, share and discuss scientific research and analysis, and good practice from across Scotland and around the world, and identify knowledge gaps; and

3.   To move sport from talking shops into strategic discussions around policy that can help all involved in developing community activity to deliver sustainable, funded provision and programmes with long-term benefits to the physical and mental health and wellbeing of Scotland’s population.

Day One features three key discussion themes:

- The Divided Nation: How do we reach the inactive and excluded and support exposed groups?

- The future of community facilities and services: New models of planning, management and access to community facilities and services.

- Strengthening Scotland's workforce: How can sport help to create healthier, more productive staff with stronger minds, emotional intelligence and resilience, and boost productivity?

Day Two moves discussions into policy shaping with delegates helping national and local stakeholders to create effective strategy and sustainable delivery for the future.

This event is designed to help everyone at the cross-section of sport, activity and health in Scotland to get on the same page and will aim to conclude with a clear focus for all stakeholders on key priorities, their roles and where research and insights are required to effect significant impact from 2020. We welcome everyone's input.
