We are coming back!! We had a fantastic time in Jamestown, RI last year and we can't wait to make the trip back again!
PaddleLife has planned a whole weekend of surfski fun with Sean Rice and we really hope that you will join us! So, block off the 28th and 29th July 2018 in your diaries and don't miss out!
The schedule for the weekend is going to be as follows:
Saturday 28th July AM: We are going to be taking part in "The Battle of the Bay" race in Jamestown. It is a fun, social event and a fantastic opportunity to get paddling around some beautiful scenery. We would highly recommend you try to make this event!
The race start is at 10 am and registration for the race is at www.paddleguru.com
Please contact race organizer Tim Dwyer for more information regarding the race: timothydwyer5@gmail.com
Saturday 28th July PM: PaddleLife Workshop for beginner/intermediate paddlers.
Time: 1pm-4pm
After the Battle of the Bay race, we will be hosting a 3-hour workshop. This will be suitable for beginner to intermediate paddlers and will be held in flat water (in Jamestown). This will be the perfect opportunity to learn everything you might need to know about surfski paddling as a newbie. If you don't have any craft then we would be happy to help. Tim Dwyer is a local Epic Kayaks Expert and will have a limited number of boats for rent. ALL paddlers are welcome no matter your experience! If you've ever wanted to just try the sport then that time is now!
NO experience = NO problem!
Topics covered in the workshop:
- Optimizing your equipment set up (boats, paddles etc)
- Optimum paddle stroke technique and one to one feedback
- Maximising efficiency
- Stability drills and techniques
- General tips and advice
- Safety on the water (remounts etc)
Sunday, July 29th: Full-day SURFSKI EXPERT Workshop with 2017 Molokai World Champion - SEAN RICE!!!!
Time: 9pm-4pm
We are hosting a full day Surfski Expert workshop on Sunday 29th July with Sean Rice 2017 Molokai World Champion! The focus of the workshop is paddling in the open water and downwind skills, as well as training tips and race preparation. The day will begin with video analysis and review of each paddler and their stroke while on an erg. This will leave every paddler with video footage of how they look while paddling along with the respective feedback and corrections from Sean. Even if you have participated before, it would be well worth returning. We guarantee that there is still lots to be learned!
Shortly after we are done there we will be using our new and exciting beach venue right near Newport. This area will provide us with safe entry but also as much wind and waves as we like to practice and learn everything else you might need to know. We will have a sandy beach and gentle waves to use all afternoon. EVERYONE loved the surfing practice from last year!
This workshop will be suitable for intermediate to advanced paddlers. Part of the day will be spent on flat water and some on rougher/open ocean.
Topics covered in the SURFSKI EXPERT workshop:
- Individual VIDEO analysis of paddle stroke technique and one to one feedback
- Stability and boat handling skills and techniques
- Downwind paddling technique
- Open water self rescue (dealing with broken paddles, rudder lines etc)
- Open water group rescue and recovery
- Surf-riding skills at a beach
- Surfski entry techniques from a beach
- Paddling specific relaxation and stretching exercises
- Training tips and program building
- What does it take to win Molokai and to be a World Champion
We are excited to also have a relaxed social event (Mexican dinner with some free beer!) organized for the Saturday evening at the Dwyer household. Please purchase meal tickets with your registrtion so we can cater accordingly. This event invite is open to all friends and family of course! More info on this to follow once we have all our registrations.
All workshops are conducted by the international surfski champion, Sean Rice. Sean is an extremely experienced surfski coach and conducts his workshops in a friendly and relaxed manner. Each paddler will come away with a whole new field of surfski knowledge and will experience an unforgettable day on the water with one of the best in the sport.
PaddleLife prides itself on offering the highest-quality learning experience. All workshops are limited to a small group of 12 participants to ensure everyone gets one-on-one experience. Each workshop is adjusted accordingly to suit the level and speed of the group.
After both workshops, there will time for more "surfski chat". We can cover any topic you like and encourage questions!
