Workshop description:
Award-winning wildlife gardener and ambassador for Butterfly Conservation in the U.K., Joel Ashton of Hazelwood Landscapes and The Butterfly Brothers is the lead for this workshop and will hopefully impart years of professional insight into gardening and landscaping for wildlife. We’re also delighted to be partnering with Castletown House, 2018’s overall winner of the ‘Green Flag for Parks Pollinator Award’ who will be hosting this workshop in Castletown Demesne. From first assessing what you have, to making simple changes in the choices of plants and other garden features you should be considering introducing, this workshop will help you create a space where wildlife can thrive.

Health & Safety:
Please be mindful that this workshop includes an element of teaching outdoors. Warm waterproof clothing and footwear are essential. As a rule of thumb, it is generally expected that any participants who sign up for a workshop that involves spending time in the outdoors will own and bring the appropriate outdoor clothing. Good walking boots and warm waterproof clothing are essential.

The National Biodiversity Data Centre is a national organisation for the collection, collation, management, analysis and dissemination of data on Ireland’s biological diversity. Biodiversity data are a key requirement for understanding our natural surroundings, for tracking change in our environment and for gaining a greater insight on how we benefit from, and impact upon, the ecosystem goods and services provided by biological diversity; a national asset which contributes at least €2.6 billion to the Irish economy each year. The Data Centre was established by the Heritage Council in 2007 and is funded by the Heritage Council and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
