Class meets 9:00 pm to noon, Wednesday mornings for 8 weeks.
OGMS instructor Jean pSmith
leads this class.

Learn the skills necessary to construct silver jewelry. Students will be introduced to the concepts of jewelry construction; design planning, sawing, forming, torch soldering, stone setting and finishing, basic
metallurgy, and common market practices for fine metals.
A bezel set cabochon pendant project is taught. Returning students may follow the project or conduct self-taught projects with guidance from the instructor as time allows. The equipment necessary to complete the basic project is provided by OGMS for students to use. Students are welcome to bring their own equipment- it should be clearly marked.

Materials and classroom fees are collected by the instructor. Market price of Silver fluctuates. An estimate of $35 for the starter kit and $7 for gas & consumables will give students a reasonable ballpark of fee cost. Actual costs may vary by a few dollars.  No checks, but credit cards can be accomodated.

Materials provided are sufficient to complete the beginning project, and if conservative at least one additional project. Returning students will need to source and purchase their own metals and stones for additional projects.

All classes are designed for full, 8 week attendance. A safety class is conducted on the first day of class and cannot be made up if missed. The first weeks of class impart key information and should not be missed. If you cannot attend ALL scheduled classes in a session, please sign up for a session when your schedule allows you appropriate time.

Classes are conducted by volunteer members of the Oxnard Gem & Mineral Society, under the the auspices of the City of Oxnard, Dept. of Recreation.
