Eastvale Dam Failure
The Eastvale Dam on the Beaver River near Beaver Falls, PA provides a constant pool of water to feed the raw water intake for the Beaver Falls Municipal Authority’s Eastvale Water Plant. On April 16, 2017 a small vortex was noticed in the pool immediately upstream of the dam. By the following day, the vortex had grown and attempts to plug the suspected hole failed. This presentation describes the emergency response to stabilize the dam, the investigation of the cause of the failure, and the design of a permanent repair.
