Join the tour’s compassionate experts as they discuss the details and alternatives to diagnosing and drugging the challenging behaviors youth display. Learn more about the science behind mental health diagnosis, child development, academic success, and surviving parenthood. Topics will include: Trauma, Diagnostic Labels (ADHD/ODD/Bipolar), Psychiatric Drugs, Safe & Effective Approaches, Social-Emotional Learning, Foster Care, Systems Change/Reform

Robert Whitaker has won numerous awards as a journalist covering medicine and science, including the George Polk Award for Medical Writing and National Association for Science Writers’ Award for best magazine article. In 1998, he co-wrote a series on psychiatric research for the Boston Globe that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Anatomy of an Epidemic won the 2010 Investigative Reporters and Editors book award for best investigative journalism. His recent book, Psychiatry Under the Influence, investigates how the influence of pharmaceutical money and guild interests has corrupted the behavior of the American Psychiatric Association and academic psychiatry during the past 35 years.
Marilyn Wedge Ph.D. is a family systems therapist in private practice in California for twenty-three years. She was educated at The University of Chicago, where she earned Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees, and had a post-doctoral fellowship at the Hastings Center for Bioethics. She was trained and supervised in family systems therapy by Jay Haley at the Family Therapy Institute of Washington, D. C. She is the author of Pills are Not For Preschoolers: A Drug-free Approach for Troubled Kids and In the Therapist's Mirror: Reality in the Making
Michael Gilbert Psy.D. has worked in human services for the past 24 years, including foster care, group home, and hospital settings. In addition, he has worked as a school psychologist within Syracuse City Schools as well as adjunct professor at local colleges. In 2000, he founded "It's About Childhood & Family, Inc.," a not-for-profit clinical and resource center. Recently, he launched the Inner Wealth Initiative in Central New York as a grassroots movement to provide families analternative to the traditional mental health system. In addition to lecturing extensively he has advocated for and conducted research evaluating non-medication and non-labeling approaches for families with children exhibiting challenging behaviors often diagnosed as ADHD, ODD, and Bipolar. Dr. Gilbert is on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Ethical Psychology & Psychiatry (ISEPP) as well as the annual conference chairperson.
Robert Foltz Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist & Associate Professor at Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Foltz has devoted considerable focus to the treatment of severely disturbed adults and adolescents in Inpatient and Residential Treatment settings. Since early in his studies, Dr. Foltz has been interested in the psychological treatment of conditions such as schizophrenia. Dr. Foltz has provided clinical services, as well as administrative services in Residential Treatment settings around the Chicago area for over 15 years. He has consulted with school districts in the assessment of troubled youth and has maintained an active private practice since 1999. Dr. Foltz is also on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Children’s Residential Centers and the Editorial Board for Reclaiming Children & Youth. His professional and clinical interests include child / adolescent psychopathology, psychopharmacology, the psychological & neurological impact of trauma, and critical evaluation of evidence-based treatments.
Michael W. Corrigan Ed.D. is an educational psychologist and a professor of human development and research methods at Marshall University. His research on child development and school reform has been funded through the US Department of Education, National Science Foundation, and Department of Justice. He is the author of the new book on ADHD with Rowman and Littlefield as well as numerous other books and peer-reviewed publications on educational reform and the social development of children. Kevin Miller is a writer & film maker who has been producing documentaries since the late 1980s. "Generation Rx" is an award winning documentary that examines the dramatic cultural shift that has taken place in our country and elsewhere, involving the use of psychiatric medication with youth. Mr. Miller has won a dozen international film and television awards, in addition to acclaim he has received for his writing.
Marcia Lee is the founder of Kids Focus and Solutions Without Drugs and a certified educator. Using over thirty years of experience in teaching, movement, and in-depth research of children's brain and behavioral development, Ms. Lee created Kids Focus to help children focus, feel balanced, and learn to self-regulate using simple movements, without the use of medication.
