This is an overnight trip for the Rox youth team to climb at Sams Throne in Arkansas. Sams Throne is a terrific trad climbing spot with fun moderate face, chimney, and crack climbing. The guides will set top ropes on all routes, giving the kids the chance to climb some adventurous outdoor routes that feel entirely different than the usual sport climbing they do at Rox and at Jamestown. See below for a picture of one of the chimney routes we'll climb.
We will leave from Memphis Rox at 4pm on Friday, camp at Sams Throne Friday night, climb all day on Saturday, and return to Memphis Rox by 10pm on Saturday night. It will be a long day and a half but worth it for some great team bonding and amazing climbing. We can provide tents and sleeping pads for participants who need them.
We will get dinner on the road both Friday and Saturday night. We will provide breakfast on Saturday morning, but all participants are responsible for their own lunch and snacks on Saturday.
MOCS is a non-profit, and one of our core principles is that everyone should just pay what they can. The full cost for MOCS to guide this trip for a single climber is $100, including transportation, guide travel expenses, insurance, and climber and guide equipment. Please use the donation option to cover the $100 cost of the trip if you can afford it. But If you can't afford to pay the $100, we absolutely want you to come on the trip!
