Option 5: 02/26/19 Mobile Workshop - The Underline Walking Tour Partial Approval - $25.00

The Underline is focused on transforming an existing, outdated bike trail/maintenance road below Miami’s Metrorail into a 10-mi. linear park, urban trail, and community space. It includes all the elements for improving community connection, safety, promoting healthy active transportation, and creating more accessible open space. Participants will see Phase 1, Brickell Backyard section of the Underline that begins construction by the end of 2018. The tour will start at MiamiCentral Station, travel by Metromover to Brickell Station and then include a 1-mi. roundtrip walk of the Brickell Backyard area. The tour will highlight improvements to be made from Miami River to Coral Way, including the improved bike and walking trail, outdoor fitness area, art elements, community stage, dining table, gaming tables and sustainable landscaping. Option 4: 02/26/19 - Mobile Workshop - Brightline MiamiCentral Station Tour Partial Approval - $25.00

Brightline is the only privately owned, operated and maintained passenger rail service in the United States. The recently opened station and rail service to Miami will significantly benefit the South Florida region and bring an extensive amount of redevelopment in the surrounding downtowns. The station tour will highlight the steps taken to implement this type of rail service in the region, the uniqueness of building a station in downtown Miami and incorporating opportunities for transit-oriented development, and the technology upgrades to make the service safe and the stations state-of-the-art. The walking tour of the station will start and end at MiamiCentral. Option 1: 02/26/19 Mobile Workshop - City of Coral Gables Trolley Tour Partial Approval - $25.00

The planning of Coral Gables was influenced by the City Beautiful Movement of the late 1890s and early 1900s. Participants in this tour will ride the Metrorail to Douglas Station, where they will board the free Coral Gables Trolley. Participants will be escorted through residential neighborhoods to learn about recently constructed sidewalk connections, high emphasis crosswalks and pedestrian signage installed as part of a pedestrian awareness campaign. The next stop will be to the recently reconstructed Miracle Mile and Giralda Plaza which provides a cohesive pedestrian-friendly experience with garden areas, outdoor dining, improved lighting, wayfinding, and public art. Participants can explore the center of Coral Gables on their own, where they can eat lunch, shop or even ride on the City’s scooters. Option 2: 02/26/19 Mobile Workshop - Downtown Miami Walking/Metromover Tour Partial Approval - $25.00

For many years, the Miami DDA has implemented transportation improvements and realized placemaking elements to revitalize the downtown and waterfront area. The tour will highlight the implementation of Complete Streets and transit-oriented development (TOD) projects, the activation of open space like the Baywalk, and the collaboration with private developers to expedite and enhance changes to the area. The tour will start at MiamiCentral Station and then move on to explore the Complete Streets demonstration projects on SE 1st Street and NE 3rd Avenue, the Baywalk/Museum Park area, improvements planned for under the I-395 overpass, and Miami World Center. The tour will end at MiamiCentral and participants will have the opportunity to explore on their own the new 11-acre complex that offers shopping, dining, and a food hall. Option 3: 02/26/19 Mobile Workshop - City of Miami Beach Bike Tour Partial Approval - $25.00

Winner of the 2018 Safe Streets Community Award, the City of Miami Beach has taken enormous steps in prioritizing active transportation. It serves as an example for the implementation of Complete Streets and building infrastructure that is resilient to future weather-related impacts. Participants will bike from Brightline’s MiamiCentral Station through portions of the City of Miami and across the Venetian Causeway to the Meridian Ave/Lincoln Road area in Miami Beach. The ride includes stops at Sunset Harbor to learn about resiliency improvements and implemented Complete Streets elements. The total ride is 5.5 mi. with 4 mi. on dedicated green bike lanes. Participants may then eat lunch, shop or visit the beach on their own. A trolley ride back to MiamiCentral Station will provide a view of a future BERT demonstration and SMART plan projects proposed on the Julia Tuttle Causeway. The 6th annual Safe Streets Summit is a collaborative effort between the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization, the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization as well as the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency to provide a local yet regionally connected approach to prioritizing and implementing Complete Streets throughout Southeast Florida. This is the first year it will be hosted in Miami-Dade County!

February 26, 2019: Mobile Workshop Day

*Participants are limited to the selection of one workshop, as all workshops occur simultaneously.

As part of this year’s Safe Street Summit, multiple tours will be conducted through the Mobile Workshop. The goal of the tours is to highlight different parts of Miami-Dade emphasizing current and planned transportation and built environment efforts that also promote economic development, livability, and access to transportation options both locally and regionally. Each of the Mobile Workshop tours will start at MiamiCentral, Brightline’s new downtown Miami multimodal hub. Brightline and MiamiCentral are exciting new transportation assets that significantly improves transportation options in the region. Comfortable attire and shoes highly recommended for all mobile workshop participants.
