Join us to learn more about our San Diego Teacher Residency at the HTH Graduate School of Education and hear from our program directors, faculty, current students and alumni regarding program highlights, coursework, the student experience, and admissions.

We believe that all children deserve a space where they can bring their full selves and develop as curious, critical, and creative human beings. We also believe that children deserve to see the cultural richness of their own communities reflected in their teachers. Public school classrooms have enormous potential to live into these goals— and the San Diego Teacher Residency (SDTR) is part of the movement to make that transformation happen, one new teacher at a time.

SDTR provides an embedded, personalized, hands-on approach to teacher preparation with an emphasis on learning to educate for justice and deeper learning. In Year 1, SDTR residents take coursework at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education (HTH GSE) and participate in an immersive year-long residency at one of High Tech High’s K-12 schools or at a mission-aligned partner school in San Diego county. Year 1 culminates with residents earning their CA preliminary teaching credential and applying for teaching positions at local schools.

Our Year 2 experience is designed for residents who are working as full-time teachers while returning one night per week to HTH GSE for continued coursework. Residents use tools from lesson study and continuous improvement to guide an inquiry project connected to an equity-focused problem of practice in their classrooms. At the end of Year 2, residents graduate with a Master’s degree in Teaching & Learning.

Visit our program website to learn more! If none of the live sessions work for you, please continue through this registration process to receive a recording and we'll be in touch. Feel free to contact us at admissions@hthgse.edu with questions.

NORMS FOR HTH VISITORS

Follow the “rule of two feet.” Use your two feet to go where you think you will learn something interesting. Please feel free to walk into classrooms and observe.

Ask for help. Ask anyone for help, including staff and students. Every school has a Site Manager at the front desk who can help point you in the right direction.

Be respectful. If you are about to enter a classroom and you notice that four or five visitors are already there, please consider coming back later. Always make sure there are HTH staff present in the room when you interact with students.
